PROJECT OVERVIEW

Lumora is a fictional digital candle studio designed to make online candle shopping feel calmer, clearer, and more intentional.

The project began with a common e-commerce problem: users want candles that support mood, atmosphere, and personal rituals, but online shopping often leaves them guessing between vague scent names and overwhelming product lists. To solve this, I designed a guided website experience centered around a Design Your Candle pathway, curated scent collections, and clear educational support around scent, burn time, and safe candle use.

The project included brand strategy, persona development, value proposition, content strategy, information architecture, responsive wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and usability testing. Lumora demonstrates my ability to build a brand and digital product experience from concept to execution — balancing emotional storytelling with clear, user-centered design.

challenges

The candle market is highly saturated, and many brands rely heavily on beautiful visuals without giving users enough clarity. Through the discovery process, I identified recurring issues across candle and wellness websites: unclear product guidance, vague scent descriptions, limited education around burn time and safety, and personalization that often feels more aesthetic than useful.

The core user problem was decision friction. People are drawn to candles because they want their spaces to feel calmer, warmer, or more personal, but shopping online removes the most important sensory cue: scent. Without guidance, users are left guessing which candle fits their mood, room, routine, or gifting need.

The challenge was to design an e-commerce experience that could reduce uncertainty while still feeling elevated and emotionally resonant. Lumora needed to feel premium and calming, but also practical, clear, and easy to navigate.

solutions

I designed Lumora as both an e-commerce website and a guided digital candle studio.

The site centers around a Design Your Candle pathway, supported by curated scent collections, atmosphere guidance, product education, and a streamlined shopping flow. Instead of overwhelming users with too many options, the experience helps them choose based on intention, room type, mood, and daily rituals.

The information architecture was designed to reduce cognitive load, with a minimal navigation system, scannable homepage sections, clear product categories, and educational content placed directly inside the shopping journey. This included candle collections, scent discovery, brand philosophy, materials and craft, lightweight editorial content, customer support, and a simplified checkout system.

I also created Lumora’s visual identity, including the logo, color palette, typography, imagery direction, and brand voice. The final brand system used warm neutrals, soft candlelight-inspired accents, Cormorant Garamond for elegance, and Poppins for clean digital readability. The tone was designed to feel calm, reflective, minimal, warm, and trustworthy — avoiding hype, urgency, or overly vague wellness language.

impact

Lumora became a complete brand-to-website case study that shows how a digital experience can turn a simple product category into something more meaningful, guided, and memorable.

The project demonstrates my ability to think beyond aesthetics. I worked through discovery, positioning, persona development, value proposition, brand identity, content planning, responsive wireframes, high-fidelity design, and usability testing. The final experience was designed to support both business goals and user needs: helping Lumora stand out in a crowded market while giving users a calmer, clearer way to shop.

Usability testing with two participants confirmed that the experience felt modern, visually strong, intuitive, and emotionally aligned with the brand. Feedback also identified realistic improvement areas, including reducing redundancy between navigation items and improving small text or low-contrast areas for accessibility.

For employers, Lumora shows that I can build a digital product from strategy to execution — combining branding, UX, content, visual design, and user validation into one cohesive experience.
